One Country Project Applauds the Passage of the Inflation Reduction Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, One Country Project founder Heidi Heitkamp issued the following statement in reaction to the U.S. Senate passage of the Inflation Reduction Act:

“The Inflation Reduction Act is a win for rural communities. The bill will help to tackle inflation, reduce costs, create jobs, and deliver tax equity for rural Americans. The nearly $40 billion investment the bill makes in agriculture, forestry, and energy provisions will help rural communities tackle the climate crisis, lower energy costs, and create clean energy jobs across Rural America.

“Investing in Rural America will strengthen the entire economy and will help ensure that historically underserved parts of America receive the funds necessary to combat the economic, environmental, and health challenges it faces. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted rural healthcare challenges and this bill will help to reduce healthcare costs for seniors and American families in rural communities. The Inflation Reduction Act caps seniors’ out of pocket spending for prescription drugs at $2,000 per year and will help American covered under the Affordable Care Act save on their health insurance premiums. This is essential when rural Americans are feeling the pinch of inflation in their daily lives.

“While gas prices have maintained a downward trend for the past 50 days, the historic investments in domestic biofuels in the Inflation Reduction Act will be instrumental in decreasing our dependence on foreign oil and lowering the cost at the pump long-term.

“Equipped with crucial funds, farmers, ranchers, small business owners, and rural residents will be able to lead local efforts to create resilient and sustainable rural communities. We applaud Senate Democrats for investing in rural communities by passing the Inflation Reduction Act and urge the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the bill quickly so it can be signed into law by President Biden.”
